Kiernan Hastey (they/them) is a multidisciplinary artist located in Eastern New Brunswick that works primarily through alternative and traditional photographic processes, relief printmaking, and textiles. They focus on the documentation and connection to environment, human-altered landscapes, overlooked subject matter, time progression and aging, all through the act of close looking.
They earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Art History minor from Mount Allison University (2024), and have since continued to draw inspiration from rural landscapes throughout the maritimes and surrounding areas. They primarily use strenuous methods of working and explore raw connections in the details found within their photographs. These elements of texture, contrast, and reoccurring patterns found in overlooked details demonstrate the connection between humans and nature through a new perspective. Through their work, they aim to create the possibility of slowing down and observing this subject matter emotionally, furthering the understanding of memory and grief in their practice.
